November 9, 2015 - Army of Ink Will Everyone Please Stop Smiling

army of ink smily face 3

What’s with all the smiley faces – things are really not that great.

The one thing she disliked most was false optimism.   And it was popping up everywhere, particularly in text and email messages 🙂  Sometimes people even shouted happiness :)!  But was all this just a disguise?  Were people really that happy?  She sensed the world increasingly turning away from those who weren’t feeling all that happy right now and opting for the pretense of living fairy tale lives:)  That made her sad. 🙁

See this Rose who is free from the labor of smiling.  This Rose about dealing with all matters of the emotional kind.  This Rose who is curious about the origin of sadness.

Pass her on because….you never know who’s feeling sad out there but are struggling to find a ‘sadness friendly’ place.

May 15, 2015 - Army of Ink Sailing Still

army of ink sailing still

A time to go – place to stay.

On this particular day, something precious came to its end.  Two breaths became one.

Footnote:  This little girl’s previous arrival is here but I’ve since found other useful layers of meaning – not relating to loss …..

A docked boat is one that has been taken out of a damaging environment for repair and restoration. It’s going nowhere right now, but it still has a place – and relevance.   I think this ‘pulling up’ process is one we have to continually engage in – and make time for.   To restore ourselves.  To stabilise and question; ‘Where to from here?’   But the pace of life too often gets in the way.  Interrupts.  And doing ‘nothing’, taking time out for ourselves, isn’t something viewed in a positive light.   So it’s the ‘stopping’ I feel in the image that’s important – and in urging us to do the same.

“A time to go – a place to stay”?  reflects not only creating a place in our lives for those who we have lost but it could also be about choosing (in our living lives) what to move away from and what to hold on to and really importantly….. what we can take from all of that’s made us who we are and use it in the building of our future selves.

May 11, 2015 - Look On The Bright Side

A Mother’s Day story.

Grief can plant you in a lonely and isolated place because culturally we’re conditioned to ‘look on the bright side’, and ‘get on with things’.   So when the ‘bright side’ eludes you and you struggle to ‘get on with things’, you can be left feeling pretty grim – and somewhat down on yourself.

September 16, 2014 - Be There

In the world of ‘likes’ and ‘Facebook friends’ and ‘followers’, even if we have one good friend, one person that can ‘be there’ for us – that’s more meaningful and substantial than all the ‘likes’ and ‘followers’ in the world.  Tori Amos is a favourite of mine – she’s a kick arse kind of songstress (more so on her previous albums).  This song is from her latest album and features her daughter Tash.  I lost my best mate (Mum) earlier this year.  She was my ‘be there’ person (still is in spirit) – and makes me treasure even more the relationship I have with my ‘best mate’ daughter, Ash.  Pass it on to all those who’ve ‘been there’ for you….
