October 6, 2011 - Dare to be different

Here’s a bloke who’s different – beautifully different. But there are some differing opinions on Gary, ones strong enough to have this cover banned (‘old’ news but worth talking about). I’m puzzled by this. This fear society has of those who don’t fit the mould – anything different or unfamiliar. I don’t get it that this cover was banned. Particularly when mens magazines dominate magazine racks everywhere, with babes bursting out of barely there bikinis and pyjamas that only keep particular spots temporarily warm. These objectified women (girls?) pout and poke g-stringed bottoms invitingly into the faces of passers by – kids and ‘real’ babes included. And I dont’ know if you’ve noticed, but those same ‘soft porn’ images are turning up in surf shops and young blokes clothes shops on the front of t-shirts and with matching iphone cases to complete the look. But I wondered if this is really taking off though? Will young blokes succumb to this trashy look? Or will they draw a line in the shifting sands of censorship? All the blokes I know wouldn’t be seen dead in this gear. And I don’t think blokes in general are up for being dumbed down by this ridiculous look. Wearing a wedding dress probably won’t take off either – but what guts it takes for this bloke to strut his different stuff. Pass it on to champion for individuality and difference ….
