Beauty reigns

BLOG flower girl 2

I’ve spent much of the past week with a friend who’s 7 year battle with breast cancer is coming to a close.   Writing and image has never been so critical to her.    The loss of ‘voice’ has never sat so firmly in the front row as now.  And beauty has never been so in demand.

The tumor pressing on her throat robs her of both air and voice.   So she writes.    Passing little notes to ensure her wishes are met and voice is heard – despite its loss.   Drawing Dragonflies – page after page.   Tracing her journey hurridly in journals and notebooks.   “Tonight I have the courage to close my eyes”, she pens to calm herself to sleep.   But life too, has never been so clear and delightful.   Magpies, willy wagtails and honey eaters sing it into her space.   Streams of sunlight stroke soothing warmth across the room.  Conversation is made through loving winks and frowns and eyebrow ‘talk’.   But reality is getting pushy.   Moments swing from heel digging determination to live and the painful truth of what we know is ‘around the corner’, sometime, somewhere.
