Clunk & Jam- New

Introducing Black Dog’s soft, new coat – and a request for your help so others can feel it too…

To start this off … simply send a link to this post or The Black Dog Project website to all those you know via your email (or use Facebook/Twitter ’buttons’ below).  What’s it about?  …  I’ve been wondering for a while, if we could do something to soften, what so many are finding to be, a harsh world.   And I came up with an idea – but I’m going to need some help to make it work.  I’ve been making little old fashioned, soft and comforting notes I affectionately call Clunk & Jam.   I’ll be posting the notes on the website here and ask that you help by simply passing them on to others through your email or Facebooks etc.  Think of it like a cyberspace Mexican Wave or Chinese Whispers.  Whenever you see the little typewriter (see post above), click on it and you’ll receive your Clunk & Jam note.

Print the note and stick it somewhere private (like bedroom wall pictured) or public where others might see them too – work, school, uni noticeboards and walls etc. TIP:  I use beautiful paper from art journals to print on an inkjet printer for best inky effect (if you have one), or any printer will do.  I use masking tape to stick onto walls and add other paper things I collect too.

Or glue into scrapbooks (pictured below).  You can get cheap ones from Art Shed.   Creates a thick, wrinkly, chunky effect.  Some of the journals are thread bound too – gives them that tailored look.

Print notes off onto nice art paper, fold, twine and post – or give to friends as a paper treat.

Bit more about Clunk & Jam … it’s grown from an idea of ‘printing out all the art and stories on the website’ – and I’ve been doing it on an old typewriter.   As a great lover of paper things, I believe they still hold a valuable and irreplaceable spot in the world (see the ’Clunk & Jam Note’ story above).   I also wanted to shrink things down to a more doable size for myself and Black Dog followers – something small and simple we could all do ( image of book page below from ‘The Hare With Amber Eyes’ had some influence here).  I’ve also come to know through Black Dog, that many are suffering in silence in our community.  In passing on the notes, they may just reach someone (a friend, family member, someone at work) who doesn’t feel they can share their struggle with anyone right now – but might be soothed by receiving a little note, a warm gesture of kindness.  I look forward to continuing to grow the Dog with you.  Not big- just together.  And I thank you for your help and kindness.

Janine

PS:  Remember to pass this on – collect your first note in the post above….
