November 5, 2018 - Recipe For Dreaming

recipe for dreaming

A Recipe For Dreaming (from a two dollar book) .

“Take one dream.  Dream it in detail.  Put it into your own hands.  See its final outcome clearly in your mind.  Then mix it with a little effort and add a generous portion of self-discipline.  Flavour it with a wholesome pinch of ambition.  Stir briskly with confidence until the mixture becomes clear, the doubt separated from the resolution.  Then bake at an even temperature in a moderate mind until the dream rises and is firm to the touch.  Decorate with individuality.  Cut into generous portions and serve with justifiable pride.  Approached in this manner, life is a piece of cake.  Good luck?  Is what almost always comes to those who use the recipe for dreaming and, having dreamed their dream, never, never give up until they have it.”  Bryce Courtenay.

July 29, 2017 - Army of Ink – Just One More

Army of Ink Just One More Day Final

Just one more …

It’s hard when things end.  When you really, really want them to keep going.  To last forever.

Footnote:  This ‘Ink’ could be suggesting an eventual shrinking of the loss.  An end to the slide.  And perhaps even new growth  – in herself.  Her arrival and the hopeful spin on her meaning was influenced by the music and message ‘Never Give Up – Find Your Own Way Home’ by Sia.  Suggesting  … the secret to change could well be in the building?

March 11, 2021 - Army of Ink – Out The Bad Apples

army of ink 95 garbage bag and bad apples

Sometimes you have to find a way of separating the badness from your self .

There are so many of us who have been given a bad apple.  It is the worst thing in the world to receive.   Just like having a bad apple in your bag, it rots – eventually ruining everything.  This little soldier has a story about ‘outing’ bad apples – and rising from the ruin …..

… Someone put a bad apple in her bag once, and although she was sure people could tell something was wrong, she didn’t show anyone the apple because it was so bad – and she worried it would make them feel bad too.

The little girl’s greatest fear became that if she ever took the bad apple out, or someone discovered it, they wouldn’t want her anymore.  They’d think she was bad.  She forever longed for someone to  get rid of the bad apples for her.

On most days, she wished the bad apples had been put in someone else’s bag.

October 10, 2019 - Love You Clunk & Jam

(Clunk & Jam second edition 2019).

Love You Clunk & Jam

When you’ve come from a place of hurt and brokenness and you have lost much and you have these stories and a whole bunch of imaginary friends who continually show up for you no matter what and help you put things back together and you prefer keeping to yourself because when you’ve been hurt or broken you fear the world like nothing else and all the things that could possibly go wrong (again) and you’re fragile and exquisitely sensitive and you want to protect that very precious breakable thing and hiding away feels majorly comfortable and showing yourself feels like being dropped out of a multi-story building but you take fear’s hand and in the other the most strength giving thing you have and together you venture beyond the hurt and brokenness and you’re mildly terrified and slightly excited but you have everything you need to take that brand new step as the one you’ve put back together again and no one can take that from you and you’ve made it and you know from now on you’ll keep on making it and you’ll never be alone again I love you Clunk & Jam .

Clunk & Jam’s Story …

Clunk & Jam evolved from an idea (back in 2008) to create a street newspaper, a printed way to share the art and stories from The Black Dog Project website.  This was with some good people who kindly created the Black Dog website – Mike Cairns, Che Douglas and Kareen.  Stormie Mills and Miso were some of the artists who kindly agreed to contribute artwork.

July 3, 2014 - People Who Hurt

people who hurt

Art, Joanne Nam found at MONA  (original in colour).

If we better understand those who have narcissistic personalities maybe we can be less affected by their cruelty – and more accepting that there is little (or nothing) we can do to make them change or have empathy and compassion for another’s feelings and experiences.
